AIDA- The Clubship

The cruise ships’ unmistakeable paintwork and a red pout at the bows, hence their nickname,"Hotlips", have helped to develop AIDA – The Clubship as a strong brand. AIDA Cruises started in 1996 with the AIDAcara. The AIDAvita followed in 2002, the AIDAaura in 2003. From April 2004, the AIDAblu will increase total capacity to 5,400 passengers. The concept’s success depends on the right atmosphere. Giving passengers that special something is the mission of Hamburg interior design company psd – Partner Ship Design. The company manages ship furnishing projects from start to finish, providing concepts, designing cabin interiors and theatres, and giving that special look to restaurants and bars, beauty, sports and wellness areas, pools and sundecks. The team, headed by Siegfried Schindler and Kai Bunge, places great emphasis on innovative design and high quality to guarantee the special enjoyment value of the holiday and to strengthen customer loyalty. It comes as no surprise, then, that DORMA is on board too. The doors of the 1,262 cabins of the AIDAaura and the AIDAvita were fitted with DORMA TS 91 cam-action door closers.

Partner Ship Design also requested a special solution from DORMA: 1,262 GRAL ORION custom-designed glass shower walls were produced and supplied for the cabin bathrooms.It’s not only AIDA guests who appreciate the comforts and great atmosphere on board but also the German National Olympic Committee. As the official hospitality ship of the Olympic Games 2004 in Athen, AIDAaura was anchored in the port of Piraeus from 12 to 30 August.
